My Parkinson's Story

Parkinson's never gives you a day off..

.. just a few hours of relief dotted throughout each day when the medication works and I can feel normal.

I was diagnosed in 2019 but as with most people had the illness for a few years prior.  Struggling to write, aches in my left side and weakness in my leg were signs I needed to see a specialist who, after some tests, confirmed the diagnosis.

There are upto 40 symptoms and everyone is affected differently. My symptoms include insomnia, chronic pain, tremor, dyskinesia, lack of dexterity , stiffness & slowness - just getting dressed, eating a meal or getting out of a chair can be a real challenge when "off" medication.

Thanks to some amazing people at the NHS & YourHealthcare.org, a local Community Interest Company, I have undertaken gym & aqua physio, PD Warrior classes, speech therapy, upper limb therapy & fatigue management courses to manage my symptoms.

It has also enabled me to connect to a wider community of Parkinson's patients & I hope this fundraising will make their lives a little better while we continue to search for a cure.

London to Brighton Bike Ride 2023

Simon completed the bike ride in Sept 2023.

After 300 miles of training the final preparation included 2 days of golf at The Belfry on the Friday & Saturday and a 3 hour sleep on a yoga mat on the lounge floor after his Parkinson's symptoms flared up during the night. In hindsight, not ideal!

It was worth it though to raise £5,500 for Parkinson's UK
